Julie Cutts hasn't added a story.
This race season has been exciting and rewarding for me in many more ways than I would have ever anticipated. To reflect on all the hours of training, driving, and racing seems overwhelming to me now. If I would have known how much I would be giving to racing this year, I may have run (or ridden my bike) the other direction. I guess I never looked at the big picture of what I was doing until now, as the season is coming to an end, and the results are in. I took each training ride, drive and race a day at a time. I can say I enjoyed it all, and maybe that's why so much was accomplished this year.
Each time I drove across the desert, I knew within hours I would be at a teammate's home, in the comfort and company of good friends. When I got to the races, it was always fun to see other La Grange race/club members there to support each other and compete. So many pictures were taken, more than a baby gets their first year of life! So many memories of teammates supporting, loving, and working for one another. I am grateful for my teammates' and sponsors' support. This made me want to come back week after week and do what I love to do --race my bicycle.
As a result of great team work and sponsorship, 44 races were raced, resulting in 22 podium finishes, including 10 wins. The wins included 3 state championships, one in the elite individual time trial, elite road race, and masters criterium, and I believe, the first person from Las Vegas to ever win the SoCalCup. This was all very exciting and rewarding in itself. Then, to top it off, I got the email from UCI, offering me a wildcard spot to race in Italy at Master's Worlds Championships based on my qualifying by winning at Masters Nationals last year. Not many things excite me to the point of shaking and tears, but this did happen right in the middle of a shopping mall with my son, Isaac. My goal for next year was to compete at Masters Worlds, and now the opportunity has been given to me this year, when I feel I am the most prepared for this caliper of event. The timing is perfect.
I will be competing in Master's Nationals again this year in two weeks, home for 5 days, and then off to Italy. I am excited to represent my sponsors, club, team, coaches, friends and my country. I have two of my children who have joined the armed forces to serve their country, and you can bet I will be serving my country with pride too, even if its just on a bicycle.
I am proud to announce that Velo Club LaGrange, my team, has provided a generous cash contribution and housing in Florence for this event to offset some of my expenses. As you can imagine, the expenses associated with traveling for this event are substantial and any contribution, no matter how small, will be appreciated and will help make the dream of participating in this event a reality. The support I have been given so far is overwhelming, and I will be forever grateful.
To make a contribution, please use the link at the bottom of my page.
Thank you La Grange and each sponsor for making my dream come true.
Truly,
Julie Cutts
