Michael is my nephew. He is 14. He was born 10 weeks prematurely. Because he was born so prematurely he suffers from several very difficult health issues. Michael has Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy, Crohn's Disease, Short Bowel Syndrome and Grand Mal Seizures. He has a feeding tube and is urinary and fecal incontinent. Michael relies on a wheelchair for his mobility. Michael needs a van to safely transport him to his doctor visits. He also needs a wheelchair ramp so he can leave his house and go outside.

Michaels parents are having a rough time getting him out of the house without a wheelchair ramp. The family vehicle is no longer large enough or suitable for his transportation. The miles have been racking up on the family vehicle, as his doctors are 90 miles from the family home.

Michael lives with his biological father and stepmother. His parents divorced when he was young and his biological mother fled with Michael to another state. After several years his father was awarded custody and his mother was charged with abuse and neglect of Michael.

Dad and stepmom are hard working, family oriented people. They work opposite shifts so that someone is always there to care for Michael. Since Michael has been living with his father and step mother, he has gained 32 lbs, is back in school and his physical therapists have documented marked improvement in his health!

His dad and stepmom are trying so hard to give Michael the things that he needs to make his life a little better, but unfortunately some things are just out of their reach. His parents have sold off their farm animals to help pay for what Michael needs and it still isn't enough. They work full time, clip coupons, and are not extravagant people. They have even managed to put their skills to use and build some equipment at home so Michael can do his physical therapy at home as well as at the therapists office.

Michaels weight gain and improvement has brought additional struggles for the family. They can no longer easily lift him down the stairs of the home to get him outside. The backseat of the truck no longer accommodates him and his car seat. The truck is wearing out with all the miles being put on it to get him to his appointments.

Michael really needs a handicapped accessible van and a wheelchair ramp. The van will allow his parents to take him safely to his appointments without removing him from his wheelchair. The ramp will allow them to get him outside of his home safely and will allow him to go outside and play like other young boys.

Please help Michael gain the mobility that he so desperately needs!
