Kevin Scott hasn't added a story.
Keith is a professional Chef and most recently worked in a restaurant in Vilamoura, working six days a week, long days were a regular occurance, despite suffering mounting pain in his left arm. he continued to work thoughout a hectic summer season as Doctors were unable to discover the cause of this pain. After months of tests Keith was finally referred to a specialist in Lisbon where he was given the devastating news that he had Motor Neuron Disease.
Keith had travelled to Lisbon on his own as his fiance, Susie was in the UK looking after her mother, Josie, who had been diagnosed with Cancer.
Susie flew back to be with Keith the next day. Their world had fallen apart.
Since that day Keith has made numerous trips back to the UK, firstly to see specialists for confirmation of the diagnosis, and subsequent trips in a desperate bid to seek all available resources. They were shocked to find there is very limited funding and specialist knowledge available.
Obviously the cost of flights and equipment have taken their toll and with limited funds Keith & Susie are finding things difficult to say the least.
Currently Keith has lost the use of both his arms and his neck muscles are weakening, this is a progressive disease, acting rapidly in Keith's case. He can no longer do basic tasks himself such as cooking, drinking, feeding, washing, personal hygene etc.
We need your help!
We are looking to raise as much money as possible to give Keith a better quality of life. Our initial aim is to help fund a fully equipped wet room including a wash/dry toilet.
In support of Keith, our friend Marc, aged 38 (of Algarve Builders) has bravely (or perhaps madly!) volunteered to cycle from Alte, commencing on 25th April and will arrive in Portsmouth, 6th May. He is aiming to complete 80-120km per day, cycling @10rs per day in order to raise as much as possible for Keith.
Marc has lived in Alte for five years along with his partner Rachel and daughters Millie & Grace and son Rory.
Marc will fund his own journey, however, if anyone would like to sponsor him with kit, gear, accommodation, spare tyres, inner tubes etc, anything would be greatly appreciated!
He plans on updating us with his progress throughout his journey on this page so please click "FOLLOW" Marc on his journey. Here are a few stats to be going on with:
Total distance: 1109km
Estimated time: 10 days riding
Total accent: 6098m
Start elevation: 169m Alte
Finish elevation: 3m Santander
Max elevation: 1294m
Please give as little or as much as you can afford.
