🍁Hi, my name is Emma, and I grew up surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Vermont, in a Canadian family, where our heritage was always part of our story. Some of my childhood memories are rooted in that beautiful part of the world, from the changing colors of the seasons to the traditions and family history that connected us to the generations who came before us. Growing up,
I don't think I fully understood just how significant those roots would become to me later in life. Like so many of us, I went on to explore the world, traveling to different countries, experiencing different cultures, and discovering how much there is to learn beyond the place we call home. Those experiences shaped so much of who I am and gave me a deep appreciation for the freedom to explore, to grow, and to choose the life that feels right for us.
Over the years, my children have developed that same curiosity about the world. They've been traveling, experiencing different places, and discovering that there are so many different ways to live, learn, and build a future. As a mother, one of the things I hope most for them is that they always feel free to follow that curiosity, explore new possibilities, and make choices based on what matters most to them.
And yet, as much as we've looked outward and explored the world, I've found myself looking back toward our own roots. Our French-Canadian heritage has always been part of our family story, but in some ways, it has also felt distant. It's something I've known about, something I've carried with me, but never fully realized we might be able to reconnect with in such a tangible way. Then, quite unexpectedly, I discovered something that changed how I looked at our family history.
Through our ancestry, my children and I are eligible for Canadian citizenship. I honestly hadn't realized this was possible for us and to discover that something connecting us to generations before us was not simply a piece of family history, but an opportunity we could actually pursue, was such a wonderful surprise.
Suddenly, a connection that had sometimes felt far away, seemed much closer. What had always been part of our ancestry could become part of our everyday lives and something we could carry forward into the next generation. For me, this is about more than obtaining another passport. It's about reconnecting with where we come from while continuing to embrace everything the world has to offer.
Canadian citizenship would give my children another option as they grow older, another country where they could potentially choose to live and work, and another way to shape their futures. It'd give our family greater flexibility, too. And the ability to consider new possibilities if life ever takes us in a different direction.
Having the freedom to choose where we feel most at home is something I value deeply, and I'd love for my children to have that same freedom. I'd love to give all three of my children this opportunity as a Christmas gift. Rather than something that gets used up or put away, it's a gift that could stay with them throughout their lives, connecting them to their heritage while giving them more choices for the future.
The cost for our family of four is around 5,000 dollars, including citizenship costs and passports. That's why I've created this fundraiser. I'm hoping to raise the 5,000 dollars we need by Christmas so that I can make this opportunity a reality for our family.
I know there are many wonderful causes in the world, and I'm grateful you've taken the time to read ours. If our story resonates with you and you'd like to contribute, any amount would help us get closer to our goal. Every contribution would bring us one step closer to reconnecting with our Canadian roots and making this dream a reality for my children.
🍁With gratitude, Emma.
