"Brita's photos between the 60s and 80s were produced before the emergence of digital editing. As they are original, they further highlight the talent of the models and photographers from that time." - Brita Brito.
Who am I?
Hi! My name is Brita Brazil. I am the first supermodel from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2020, I wrote a book telling this story. Now, I'm producing the documentary "Márcia Brito, the first supermodel from Rio de Janeiro"—by Brita Brazil. "Márcia Brito" is my real name, which I used for 23 years in fashion and then as an actress. Since 2000, I have been known as Brita Brazil because of my musical career. The e-book will be released along with the documentary, which I've been filming since January 2025.
I worked as a model for 23 years, during the intense and remarkable periods of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I also worked in Europe in the 70s for these model agencies: Bobton's (England), Paris Planning (France), and Fashion Models (Italy). In 1976, I also worked in Mexico City.
In 2022, I completed three documentary filmmaking courses and one in fiction screenwriting. I am the former wife of the great Dutch filmmaker Roberto Bakker; we lived in Hollywood for two years, where our daughter—also an award-winning producer—Ramona Bakker, was born at home. There, we were completely immersed in cinema, the Seventh Art. The fact that I worked for 23 years as a model, doing countless commercials, and 35 years as a TV actress gave me intimacy with the camera.
Originally, I took these courses to screenwrite, produce, and direct a documentary about my son Ryan Brito, who was known by the professionals who saw him play as a bass genius. I have written his biography and am waiting for the right moment to begin this project. In the meantime, I write, produce, and direct my own music videos, which can be found on my Instagram @brita_brazil1.
I completed two documentary filmmaking courses at the Brazilian Association of Cinematography (ABC) and one at the International Film Academy (AIC). My directing professors at ABC were the original, talented, eccentric, and award-winning Walter Lima Júnior and José Mariani, a film professor at Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) for 20 years. Mariani has directed several documentaries, and he is also a director of photography. At AIC, my dear professors were Júlio Wainer and Luciano Brandão, both investigators who taught me everything from the history of documentaries to the art of researching compelling subjects to document. Their course focuses heavily on the practice of filming. At the end of the course, there was even a sudden, radical, and unexpected bit of encouragement: "Now go out there and film. Make your movie!" Thank you so much, dear professors—I took that to heart, and I am filming!
Throughout my modeling career, I have been heavily involved in activism for my passions: promoting and preserving Indigenous culture, protecting nature, and educating low-income children. In 2003, I set up the Afro-Indigenous Children's Cultural Center in Brás de Pina (RJ), offering education and entertainment for them. This cultural center will be featured in the documentary. In fact, saving Brazil is my 10 years old child project that has been extending throughout my entire life. I still have many ecologic and social projects to complete in Brazil. The " Ryan Brito Music School", is one of them.
I was born to help. Please, help me to help!
Why do I need your help?
--- This film rescues the 23 years I've spent in the fashion world. But I'm not showing only myself. I'm focusing on most professional people who made that business happen in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
--- It's a valuable historical record of a bygone era, preserving memories and moments of the Rio fashion scene.
--- I have unique and precious access to a rich archive, having kept hundreds of photos of fashion and publicity for six decades.
--- I want this documentary to be well-produced, finalized, and distributed so that these memories can be shared with a wider global audience. This will protect and preserve information about Rio de Janeiro's fashion scene for professionals and audiences of this and future generations. Let's preserve our culture!
Since January 2025, we have started shooting this documentary by conducting interviews with important people in this business, such as fashion producers, photographers, models, fashion designers, and advertisers. Below are some photos of those we've already interviewed.
However, to continue and complete this production, I need your support.
Required resources
Your support will help cover essential costs, such as:
- Interview travel expenses: airline tickets, accommodations, and meals for out-of-state interviews with fashion professionals that don't live in Rio de Janeiro anymore.
- Digitizing and editing archives: family pictures on paper since 1927; MiniDV, Super 8, Hi8, Super HG, MiniDisk, VHS, slides, micro slides, diskettes, etc., and also audios, cassettes, minicassettes, DATs, etc.
- Recording original soundtracks;
- Editing of the documentary;
- English subtitle placement;
- Promotion campaigns;
- Setting up a photographic exhibition in the cinema lobby during the premiere.
- Holding the official film launch night.
- Payment of expenses for registration and participation of this documentary in film events and festivals.
If you like real stories and consider the power of fashion as a "carioca" culture—it means from Rio de Janeiro-- and if you think we should preserve Rio's and, consequently, Brazilian memories, please support this documentary.
Let's produce this film together!
Thank you very much indeed

In July 2025, I interviewed the journalist and respected fashion producer Iesa Rodrigues. She complimented my actual look and suggested I return to a professional modeling career. Since Márcio Madeira, a Brazilian photographer based in Paris who has been working for the world's most important fashion designers, was here in Rio for his annual vacation, I told him Iesa's idea, and he immediately agreed to make my current pictures! I thank so much Iesa for the great idea and Márcio for his kindness!!!
I produced these pictures. The costume is all mine, simple day-by-day clothes. This first skirt I bought in London in 1974. I preserve everything, because all objects on this planet are taken from nature, so we should take better care of everything around us. The makeup I've also used my simple daily style. Here are a few shots from our session. I loved how they turned out!
