Amy Gould hasn't added a story.
Cancer Sucks.
Scott Hagerty is the bass player for Eden On Fire, father to Gage and Aly, grandfather to Helena and Charlie, love of my life and so much more.
Whether you know me as Scott's SO, Debbie's daughter, Sebastian's Mom, or that rocker chick from Eden On Fire, I'm Amy Gould. And I'm doing this fundraiser to help with the financial burden that Scott is about to face, thanks to stupid cancer. First just the facts for those who don't want to read a book.
-
Scott was diagnosed with Oropharyngeal P-16 Squamous
Cell Carcinoma in December 2024. This type of cancer,
ironically, is not caused by smoking, but by
a virus he likely contracted 20 or more years
ago. He has since quit smoking!
-
He is in Stage 2 at this time which means it
has metastasized into the lymph nodes.
-
Scott had exploratory surgery in January to biopsy and locate
the origin of the cancer. They found it on his
tongue and removed the tumor by doing a
resection of his tongue (ouch!) which has been a tough recovery process.
-
Scott has been seen by multiple specialists in Erie and now
the Cleveland Clinic. He has decided to seek
treatment with the latter and will begin intensive
Chemotherapy starting the first week of February
2025 in Cleveland.
- After approximately 9 weeks of Chemo (once every 3 weeks for 3 treatments), Scott will begin intensive radiation treatments 5 days per week for 6-7 additional weeks plus more chemo alongside this. So he is looking at up to 4 months of treatment (not counting the surgery he's already undergone).
We're sure he's gonna be missing a lot of work for many appointments and then for sure during the treatments. I'll be missing some work too because of appointments, etc. Also, he'll have to wait a while before getting short-term disability benefits from work, and then he'll only get a fraction of his salary for the rest of the treatment. Though he's insured, his health insurance won't cover the whole thing 100%.
Sadly, rent and bills do not get reduced. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. If we can reduce just one stressor through this very stressful time, he'll be able to focus on his health more.
More Info
P-16 Squamous Cell Carcinoma is curable, but it's hard to treat. Chemo will cause hair loss, nausea, fatigue and body aches. But, it's the radiation that'll hurt him the most because it hits his throat, mouth, and collarbone area lymph nodes. This makes eating difficult, painful, and sometimes even impossible. We're trying to fatten him up now so he doesn't end up with a feeding tube.
While he's getting treatment, we need to keep his spirits up. If you see him out at shows, he may not seem as energetic as he usually is. But, we're going to keep him doing the stuff he loves as long as he feels up to it. Feel free to check in with him. He will survive because of all the love from our family, friends, and fans.
