My name is Karter, and I’m an activist and student from Canada. I’m raising money to help my friend Jihad, who is 19 and living with his mother and five younger siblings in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.

I was touched by Jihad’s kindness when I gave him a little money for food, he shared it with others in his camp, despite the terrible situation his family is in. So I decided to help him fundraise because I cannot donate much myself. Last month we were able to raise $355 to distribute fish to starving families throughout the camp. Now Jihad needs our help again.

This fundraiser has managed to keep the Fawrah family from starving, and paid for Jihad's father Shadi to receive essential surgery to remove shrapnel from his face. Currently, Jihad and his family are living under a shelter made mostly of blankets, as a result, they are exposed to the rain and cold. Right now, Jihad and his family are at extreme risk of dying from exposure to the cold and rain. Especially Jihad’s baby sister, who is only about 6 months old and therefore more vulnerable to hypothermia.

We need to raise $2000 for the family's food, medical care, and nylon tarps so that Jihad can protect his family from the harsh winter. Medical supplies, medication, food and nylon tarps are all so expensive due to Israel’s siege on Gaza, which is preventing all importations and restricting aid from the UNWRA thereby raising the prices of essential items.

Years from now, when our children and grandchildren ask us how we let this genocide happen, you can tell them you helped a family in Gaza survive.
