I am Syahroni Lubis, a strong-willed student from Indonesia. I am an offer holder for Global Politics and Social Sciences International Foundation Programme at King's College London, Bachelor's degree with integrated foundation year at University of Birmingham, and Humanities & Social Sciences International Foundation Programme at Newcastle University. I am fully aware that this moment only happens once in my life and opportunities don not come twice. Take it or they will be gone and the others are goin to have it.

To be honest, i am so depressed and distraught. Sometimes, i think it is better to give up my study in the UK dream instead of pursuing it since i am facing financial hardship due to the Covid19 has shut my financial ability down, destroys the economy of my family and successfully ruined all of the plan that i have prepared since i was in high school.

As we all know, education is the greatest investment and the crucial key to the civilization. Nelson Mandela once stated that education is the most effective way to change the world.

Indeed, for now, i am still nothing but just an Asian little boy. Yet, i have determined myself that i will become a successful person no matter what. Making my people proud to have and know me always spurs me to keep pursuing my dream despite i am getting a a lot of ridicule from the people around me. They said my dream is "too high." Moreover, with my inabilty to pay the tuition and living expenses, they judge that i do not deserve to be a student of King's College London, University of Birmingham, nor Newcastle University. they highly recommend me to surrender and bury my dream than trying to chase it anyway. Probably, my dream is too big for their perceptions. Even so, i understand why they think so of me.

I am very enthusiastic to have my class and  participate in the challenging courses. Immersing myself in the diverse community is one of my cravings to build and make myself globally and internationally, very much in line with my subject and personal mission , International Relations. Also, I am so itching to launch one of the biggest progresses in my life and be a part of this multicultural country, United Kingdom.

Still, i can not ignore the financial point and fees. They act like a high wall ahead that always keep me away from achieving my study, academic progress and made as if chasing my higher education like i am chasing the clouds. Again, due to the financial obstacle, i am going to Newcastle University as an alternative to Birmingham University and King's College London, even though King's College London is my dream of intellectual destination. Finally, i am fully understand the "real value and power" of money.

Endless locking and Covid-19 seriously have given heavy dealt blow to our economy. Back then, i used to think it was not that effectual and massive but it was. Unlike other developed country, my country does not provide significant incentives or stimulus to cover the financial impact of pandemic and recover the people's economy. Implicitly, my government are telling to the people that you should find your own way to survive this difficult time. I can not deny that i am so jealous of the people in the developed and advanced countries.

My mother is a retailer. She has a shop in a shopping center in our homeland Medan, Indonesia. However, due to the continuous locking by our government to suppress the massive Covid-19 spread. Presently, shopping centers and malls have been closed for approximately 3 months. This is key factor why my mother can not or constrained in generating income. Now she is "grounded" and staying at home all the time with barely income. I feel sorry and uneasy for her. It really gets me in a position whether to choose my study or family.

My father is an engineer, more precisely civil engineer. He is running a small enterprise in which revolving in designing building, bridge, road, irrigation, and other things that related to civil engineering. Frequently, he undertakes the projects from our government. However, since the government budget is reallocated to overcome the pandemic, He hardly obtains any project and resulting in less income. In other words, he and his small enterprise are droughty.

Above all, the worst thing is that the situation in my country Indonesia is quite precarious and even top 10 countries for Covid-19 cases number. Massive spread of new variant, late response from the central government and The underestimate tendency for the virus along with its effects placing my Indonesia in a highly risky place. Not to mention that we have run out of vaccines whereas only 10-15 percent of the population have been vaccinated and untraceable cluster. many people waved white flags as the sign or symbol of surrender. These facts securely indicate that the pandemic and difficult situation in my country, Indonesia is lasting for years to come.

Speak Frankly, i am almost losing my hope for the future and institutions that i have always dreamed of. My parents have told me that most likely, i can not launch my study and my giant leap forward in this year. My study and future are surely at stake. Meanwhile, the time is getting closer and nearer.

All the fund i gain will be allocated as my "step stone" for 1,5 years before i get scholarship, part-time work, and student loan. Especially, during this uncertain time. Notably, i am not a type of person who will forget and disregard the people and parties that have brought me to the top.
