Hey Jenison/Hudsonville/Grandville Community and beyond~
We have a community member in need. I wanted to set up this care page to not only show her what a loving, caring community we have but to also show her that she doesn’t have to bear this burden alone and although she doesn’t like to, she can ask for help.
As some of you may have heard, one of our favorite dog groomers in the area, Leah Swathwood, from Captain K9 Doggie Day Care and Grooming Services was involved in a motorcycle/car accident last Thursday afternoon, August 6. Leah was riding her motorcycle (BNA the “love of her life, outside of her car/dogs/clients) down 44th street minding her own business going 45 mph. Within moments from her home, without any notice, she was hit by a car and forced to “lay her bike down”, causing not only significant damage to her motorcycle but also to her body. Police were called and “no one was at fault for this one”. Luckily, Leah is 100% responsible and was fully suited in all the protective gear you can imagine, or this could have been a whole different outcome, the gear saved her life! Leah was pretty scuffed up and sore but still determined to take care of her “pups” at work the following day.
Leah rolled in to work the following day at 7:30 am (less than 24 hours post-accident) determined to work her 10-12 hour work day and bear through the pain. If you know Leah at all, she has a deep passion for the work that she does, her work ethic is SECOND TO NONE and she will go above and beyond each and every day to make sure her dog/client’s are pleased with the outcome. Leah never misses a day of work, never calls in sick, nothing she can be counted on each and every day. Unfortunately, Leah only made it through 2 hours last Friday because the pain was unbearable.
Leah does not have health insurance so did not go to the hospital to get checked out following the accident. Instead she tried to bear through it. Finally, Saturday morning she gave in and went to urgent care where she found out she had a severely broken collarbone. Upon discharge, they referred to her to an orthopedic surgeon for Monday morning. Leah went to her appointment and heard the worst news possible~SURGERY is required.
Not having medical insurance, she hoped and prayed that her motorcycle insurance included PIP insurance and again she was devastated, that must be added. Leah is left with no coverage at all. Surgery will cost a minimum $15000-$20,000 just for the surgery and who knows what else to cover the hospital, anesthesia, and everything else. Leah is, and always has been, a firm believer in miracles and is praying for a miracle. At this time, she is unable to schedule her surgery until she comes up with 20% of the cost of the surgery.
Let’s help bless Leah with a miracle and come up with at least the funds to schedule a surgery and hopefully to pay for all medical expense, leaving her in the same financial situation she was prior accident! Leah would give every one of you the shirt off her back, even if she didn’t know you. It’s time for us to help her out now. Every little bit counts, $1, $2, $10, $100 how ever much you can. Let’s show her that this community (and beyond) CARES for its people. This would be a blessing beyond words for her!
