This is the fundrazr for the People's Defense League People's
Grocery Program for June, 2020. We exceeded our funding goals last
month, by 110%, building scores of family sized bags which allowed
us to quickly and effectively Serve the People in the face of food
shortages caused by Covid 19 layoffs, as well as help supply the
City Waste Union workers with grocery aid as their strike began and
continued. However, it is paramount that our program continues and
expands. If you want to donate in person, DM us. If you can donate
cash, this is the place for you. If all you can do is signal boost,
we appreciate the help.
Some of our recipients have told us that our program is what
stands between them and starvation, as the government response as
the government's solution-a one time $1200 dollar pay out which some
of us haven't even received- is more like a slap in the face than a
solution, when greedy landlords, and exorbitant bills soak up the
crumbs of so called "stimulus." Meanwhile multinational
corporations swindle and steal relief money like they are playing dice.
We, as working class people, are going to have to pull through
this by solidarity and not scraps from the table of the ruling
class. Our PGP uses the donations received to build dozens of supply
bags for folks who are either immunocompromised, elderly, or simply
can't make ends meet. Our cadre deliver it to folks doors after
sterilizing donations, and wearing Personal Protective Equipment.
While we will continue our grocery donations for those who cannot go
outside, the PGP will be focusing on doing 2 large distributions in
neighborhoods on the East Bank and the West Bank. These events will
take social distancing and safety into consideration, while serving to
create connections and trust in our communities as we fulfill a
material need. This is the basis of our organizing, and our organizing
is for nothing less than revolution! The urban rebellions in the last
month for Black Lives must be sustained, and must be linked to the
capitalist exploitation which is at the heart of racism in America. We
hope to use this program to expose these contradictions!
