Mark Anthony Luz, 34, is a government scholar from the Philippines studying tropical diseases in Japan. With only almost a year left, he is scheduled to receive a doctorate in September of 2019.

However, on 29 June 2018, Mark's fellow students were alerted to gibberish he was sending on the group's Messenger thread. After deciphering that he was trying to tell his friends that he thinks he had a stroke alone in his apartment, they immediately called emergency services and Mark was taken to the university hospital.

A ruptured aneurysm was what caused the left side of his body to be completely paralyzed. Unable to stop the bleeding, Mark was then scheduled for emergency surgery and underwent a major operation to stop the bleeding immediately. 

Mark is now confined in the intensive care unit of Nagasaki University Hospital. The operation was a success and he is now slowly getting more responsive. However, the efforts to save his life are racking up bills for medication and rehabilitation.

With very little financial resources to cover the growing medical bills, we, his fellow scholars, family, friends and the Filipino community in Nagasaki, Japan are asking for your help in raising funds to cover his medical expenses and bring him home to fully recover. We are also asking you to share this story so that we can reach as may helping hands as possible. Any amount you can give would be highly appreciated and your prayers will be of great importance towards his successful recovery.
