Blackie is a two year old Javanese female mutt dog. She's been live with a friend of mine Adam who is a documentary movie director over a year ago. My dearest friend Adam has been dedicating his life for saving stray dogs, educating people on animal welfare, and Indonesia's wildlife conservation. He lives in an old house with over than 9 dogs in a kampong in Jogjakarta city.These dogs he's been living with are mostly rescued from Jogjakarta streets and other areas while himself continue his work to educate people and children to care for animals through making documentaray movies (mostly self-funded with a little bit fund from animal welfare organisation he worked with based on contract).
One of the dogs he's been caring for is Blackie. Blackie's spirit to struggle has been touched him and the rest of us, Adam's friend. We've been trying to help Blackie to recover and getting the best this life could offer. Here is Blackie's story.
When Blackie was a little puppy, she dumped by her owner at a factory area in Jakarta suburbs. A javanese mutt dogs like her always considered as just an ordinary and ugly dog, so many of them being dumped and left to die by their owner.
Blackie then found by a poor mechanic who lives nearby the area who kept her in the mechanic’s garage. She lived in that garage together with a cat peacefully until one sad night she got hit by a car that was speeding on the road in front of the mechanic workshop. She survived but she got her both back legs injured and that accident left her half paralyzed. She couldn’t move anywhere except by dragging her body with her front legs.
Even-though she suffer with a heavy injury, her spirit was never broken. She kept her appetite good, she showed excitement and her curiosity into anything as it’s a way she was trying to tell her owner that the accident doesn’t change her spirit to see the world and that she is loving this life. Alot of people tried to take Blackie away, not to take care of her, but only to kill her for her meat but her owner keeping them away from Blackie. The mechanic doesn’t have money to take Blackie to vet to get medical help. He said that although Blackie can not live as a normal dog anymore, he never wanted Blackie to be killed. He wanted Blackie to have a better owner that can take care of her and gives her a good life with her condition.
With the help of a good man named Andre we adopted Blackie. Blackie had a 10 hours train trip from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. She arrived safely in our place. In Yogya Blackie lives with nine other dogs. She has been happy and playful dog as others, but we can not let her play too long as if she plays too long and being too tired there will be a suspicious fluids comes out from her female organ. We've done whatever we could to get her condition better. Periodically we brought in bone therapist to give her therapy. Fellow students sometimes bring her to swim in the river as one of the therapy method as well. Blackie always eat a lot, has been having a stable weight and always been cheerful as the other dogs.
Unexpectedly, a few days ago Blackie’s cage floor full of blood. She chewed of her own scar in her left back leg until it got very deep. We rushed Blackie to animal hospital, and soon as she got there she got a fever. We were very shock and sad but we were still keeping our hope that Blackie will be okay as we notice she didn’t loose her appetite. Few veterinaries diagnosed a severe wounds. They suggested Blackie to be treated intensively in animal hospital. She is now at the animal clinic with a trusted vet in Jogjakarta. We are trying to give her the best treatment she deserves. She had to do a series of lab tests, such as blood sugar checks etc. We are still collecting some money from friends so that the treatment for Blackie can be continue and will not stop until she passed the critical time.
Every single day since the last incident, Adam (with the help of his close friend Rosi) Blackie’s wounds cleaned with alcohol and ointments, and every eight hours Blackie had been given antibiotics and pain relief. We need your help to donate as much as you are willing to, to help Blackie pass this critical period immediately and furthermore we are hoping that this beautiful soul can have the best of her life.
At the moment Adam is nearly have zero fund to pay for Blackie's medication as he is still having other 9 dogs to care for while also trying to jugle fund to continue his project of creating documentary movies. He's hoping to get a bit of money to cover Blackie's medication by selling his movie in a dvd format which we think might not give alot of addition to cover the bill. Other than selling the dvds he has a few friends including myself who only can pay her immediate treatment and our fund only can lasts for at least two weeks during Blackie's critical time. We have no money at all to make sure Blackie got further medication treatment until she is fully recovered. So this is why we are trying to raise some fund.
Our hope is if she could be healed we also think about getting her a stroller for her back legs so that she can run free and play around with other dogs.
Please help us safe Blackie and make her dream of running again come true. Helping Adam and Blackie means alot to other wounded soul dogs who has similar story as Blackie here in Jogjakarta or other part of Java. If we can get more fund then other dogs might get bigger chance to be helped too.
