Dear Humanitis Fan,

We are about to launch Humanitis Foundation, which will be set up as a charity. Many of you have seen the Humanitis cartoon, so you will have an idea of what it's about – but if not, click on the video link here.

The main goals of Humanitis Foundation are to:

1)     Remove the stigma attached to mental health

2)     Invite people to share their own Humanitis thoughts/challenges

3)     Encourage people to be kinder to themselves

4)     Raise awareness around the following main principles:

  • Life doesn’t always go to plan (and this is okay)
  • Emotional pain and suffering are a normal part of life
  • ‘Negative’ thoughts are normal and have a functional role
  • All humans are, at times, hard on themselves
  • Psychological and emotional well-being will increase and decrease throughout a human’s life
  • Humans connecting with other humans (sharing their (normal) negative thoughts, difficulties and challenges) is therapeutic in itself.

The Humanitis Foundation will provide public health messages, education, workshops and support to empower all humans to connect with one another and understand that we all share ‘Humanitis’. This common ground helps us normalise and takes the pressure off, which in turn helps us understand, accept and cope with the challenges of everyday life.

The organisation will do this in a light-hearted, interactive way with a strong emphasis on using social media channels, to reach as many people as possible, specifically to a younger audience.

For example:

Imagine a 15 year-old teenager who is being bullied at school, or is excluded and isolated by his peers. He is feeling down, confused and lacking in confidence. His parents may not know what is going on, or what to do, or maybe they are not present. He is unlikely to go to counselling or engage in a youth centre. He feels alone – and could become ‘at risk’.  However, he is always on his iPhone and Facebook, and through these channels, he stumbles upon Humanitis.org which has fun, interactive tools, allowing him to connect with other people, and anonymously share his negative thoughts and see that many other humans are in the same boat. This will help normalise his thoughts and while it doesn’t solve everything, he at least feels that he is not alone.

FUNDRAISING GOAL:

We have already raised some funds, however we are approx $10,000 short of making this a reality. 100% of the money raised will go straight into this charity.

There are close to 5,000 (and growing) Humanitis fans across all social media platforms, so if you wish to donate:

$5 - $10 You will be helping to make this charity a reality

$10+ You are now also donating to the cause.

(PLEASE NOTE: YOU CAN DONATE WITHOUT A PAYPAL ACCOUNT, JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS CLICK ON 'PAY WITH PAYPAL', AND YOU WILL HAVE AN OPTION THAT SAYS 'DONATE AS A GUEST')

If anyone else wants to get involved, and you are living in Australia (we're based in Melbourne), please feel free to contact me.

Many thanks in advance,
