The magic is real! Whether you've ever personally met Betty or you only know her through Facebook, one thing you know for sure is that the magic she possesses is the Real Thing!
Diagnosed with the most aggressive form of breast cancer a few short months ago, overnight my beloved Aunt Betty, the life of every party became a patient fighting for her life. Leaving behind the leisurely life of a recent retiree, she has been unceremoniously thrust into a complicated schedule of doctor's appointments, medical tests, complex procedures, and most recently a very rigorous chemotherapy regimen intended to shrink her tumor so that she can ultimately undergo surgery. Such an abrupt lifestyle change would bring most of us to our knees imploring GOD to answer the question, "Why me?"!
Not Aunt Betty! Instead of self-pity, she is propping the rest of us up with her undefeatable spirit! Viewing each cycle of chemotherapy as a round in a boxing match,
Aunt Betty has laced up her pink boxing gloves and decided to TKO this threat to herself! Even after receiving chemotherapy treatments that would leave most of us drained and debilitated, that magical spirit that has always been the very definition of who she is continues to spill from every cell of her body and can even be experienced via her Facebook page! Reading her status updates along with the comments left by people (many of whom have never even personally met her) will let you know in seconds just how special she is!
Many have asked if there is a way they can help Aunt Betty. The answer is yes! Your prayers are a tremendous help, so please keep them coming! Also, every Facebook comment, text message, and phone call seems to exponentially increase Betty's positive state of mind so please continue to reach out to her as often as you feel the urge! If you have the time and can drop by for a visit, by all means do...I promise your visit will put her over the moon! Finally, as most of you already know, basic medical care costs can be very expensive, and complicated specialty care of the level required by Betty's diagnosis can be beyond expensive. As a retired person, Betty's financial resources are limited and being severely challenged by deductibles, copays, and other expenses associated with this unexpected medical situation. Having had Aunt Betty in my corner all of my life and having had her constant companionship during my mother's final journey last spring, if I could afford to pay all of her expenses I would do it in a heartbeat.
