Sunshine Spaces is honored to introduce their little "Sunshine Kid", Rebekah. Becca is a courageous 4 year old girl from Frankston, TX battling leukemia (ALL).
Five months after the tragic death of her son, Vicky Lusk took in two little sisters that needed a home and began the process of adopting them as her own. A few months later, on the morning of January 8, 2012, Vicky woke up to find 2 year old Becca's mouth full of dried blood. They had been at the ER the night before and despite begging them to do bloodwork, had been sent home with a diagnosis of bronchitis. This time Vicky wasn't taking "no" for an answer. They did bloodwork and when the results came back, they were devastating! Becca's WBC was very very high. It was 120,000! Normal WBC is 4,500 to 10,000. LEUKEMIA. Her little Becca Boo near fatal. The nurses told Vicky God takes away babies and we dont know why. They were trying to prepare her for the worst.
The ER had contacted Childrens Medical Center in Dallas. They put Becca and Vicky in an ambulance and took them to the airport where they met "Childrens" with their jet. In Dallas, the doctors explained more of what was going on. They ran more tests. They did a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, gave her IV antibiotics. Becca had her port implanted, and they capped all her perfect little teeth. They said this was to prevent infections if she was to get a cavity. They said the cancer was in her liver, spleen, and bones. They came up with a plan for chemotherapy and began a long road - one that has led to today.
Becca is in remission but her treatment continues. Her recent appointment showed her levels were good but she will continue to receive chemo until May and they have at least another 2 1/2 years of doctors appointments and treatment.
The story of Vicky's love for Becca and her sister, Emilie, her sacrifice for children that, although are not biolgically hers, are her entire life and her courage to face this all with so much optimism and strength is inspiring. Vicky is a single mom who works hard to support her family with a full time job and managing the strict regiment of treatments, appointments and medication schedules.
It is hard for us to imagine the daily strain that this kind of medical crisis puts on a family but to do it alone is nothing shy of remarkable. Her love and dedication has kept little Becca alive. She is their angel and has given her girls everything she has. Now its time for us to give something back to her!
Vicky is a single mom. She and the girls live in a small, 2-bedroom singlewide home and space is tight. We, at Sunshine Spaces are going to change that. We are not only going to give these girls a dream room makeover, we are going to make sure they each have a room of their own by adding an addition.
This is a big project that has taken many months to pull together. We know Becca's army of followers that we CAN make this happen for this incredible mom! We need your help! Every dollar helps and if every one of our Becca's followers merely gave a dollar, we would be able to change their lives. Please donate what you can, share this status and truly be part of something life changing for this incredible family.

Becca loves alligators and has appropriately earned the title "Gator Strong". Let us show her how strong we can be by each of us giving a little to change a lot!
