My husband Jeff became a below the knee amputee on February 21, 2013. He had an ongoing problem with circulation in his lower leg and foot. He underwent numerous surgeries to save his leg and ultimately was told there was nothing else they could do. Jeff is quite a strong minded individual and this is just a setback in his mind. He is currently back to work and is in the process of being fitted for his first prostethus. Although we have medical insurance, we have a $5000 co-pay and have exhausted our medical flex spending card. We have also been told in order for him to ever drive again, we would need a newer car. We have a 2001 Mazda, Escape that we really like, but in order to have the necessary equipment installed because of how costly it is, the car needs to be a newer model. So we are faced with monumental expenses in order for him to gain his total independence. Jeff is only 55 years old and does not want to live on disability or depend on me for the rest of his life. Any help is appreciated.
