Kylee Laura Postma was born on 9/15/2012 4 lbs 1 oz at 7:59am. She was also born with a micro deletion of her 17th chromosome (24.2-24.3) she's one of only 6 reported cases. We have no idea what this may do to her, only speculation. So far she has had a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) that was repaired on 1/7/2013 to improve her weight gain and overall health (at time to surgery, 3 months old, she weighs only 7lbs 7oz). Shortly after the surgery the doctors found fluid on her lungs and learned that her trachea is irregularly shaped, causing her to have a breathing tube in for 7 days. While her lungs have since cleared up, she now has chyloparicardium floating around her heart and a chest tube is in place draining. Kylee also has two thumbs on her right hand which will need to be removed in the future. Her chromosonal deletion is said to maybe slow her learning and speech in the future, until then she's a big question mark. Throughout all of this, the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital has done all it can to make us healthy, happy and comfortable. The nurses are by far the best we've ever seen and not only show great concern and passion for their jobs but also their patients. They are well taught, well informed and well mannered. The doctors are above the rest and do everything they can to accomodate parents, solve problems and get the child healthy again. The hospital itself is comfortable, quiet and well organized. We would like to raise money for Kylee's future (whatever it may hold) and also the hospital. Thank you so much for your help, your prayers, your love and your constant support.
