Our family is working hard to rebuild after an unexpected and heartbreaking housing crisis. For years, we were in a rent-to-own agreement on a home we loved and cared for. Unfortunately, when our contract term ended, we were unable to secure traditional mortgage financing on a single income, and we were forced to leave our home.
This displacement has been overwhelming. I live with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and am unable to work, making our single household income stretch as far as possible against rising costs.
Right now, our family is temporarily fractured:
My husband and I are staying in crowded living conditions at our daughter’s home.
My 78-year-old father has had to temporarily move into my sister’s home.
Our 10 beloved rescued cats—who are an irreplaceable part of our lives and emotional support—are caught in the middle while we search for a stable, permanent rental where we can all be together again.
Because we have a large family of rescue animals and need an accessible, permanent space for my father and me, upfront rental and pet deposits are our biggest obstacle.
Where Your Support Goes ($7,000 Housing Goal):
Security & Pet Deposits (~$3,000 – $3,500): Securing a pet-friendly home that will welcome our family and our 10 cats.
First Month’s Rent (~$2,000 – $2,200): Covering the initial lease payment.
Utility Hookups & Deposits (~$800 – $1,000): Transfer and setup fees for heat, power, and water.
Moving Logistics & Animal Transport (~$500 – $700): Truck rental, fuel, and safe carriers for 10 cats.
(Note: Our 10 cats also need check-ups and overdue medical attention. Any funds received beyond our initial $7,000 housing goal will go directly into a dedicated medical fund for their veterinary care.)
Our 10 rescued cats are in makeshift setups: We converted a shed on the property into a safe, sheltered space for 6 of them, while the other 4 stay with us in our room because they require dedicated care and a wet-food-only diet.
