We are Matt and Janneke. We are refitting and restoring a legendary race boat, known as Duracell. Duracell was built and sailed by legendary American sailor, Mike Plant, who beat the American record for solo circumnavigation in the first Vendee Globe in 1989. We are lucky to own this piece of American racing history.
Duracell needs a new mast. Duracell's original mast is on the bottom of the Pacific after a mid-ocean collision in the early 1990's. A few weeks ago, we put out a call for used masts on our channel, and one of our viewers responded with a mast that is a nearly perfect for Duracell. The cost of the used mast, in addition to fabricating the spreaders and purchasing the standing rigging and hardware totals over $40K. Altogether, this is the most affordable route we can take to get Duracell back on the water, and the mast is a near perfect fit, needing only minor modifications.
We're turning to our fans and supporters to help us fundraise for this mast. All contributions will go directly toward the costs outlined above, and every bit of support is so appreciated. With your help, Duracell's story will continue, and this legendary boat will sail again. We’d like to raise at least $40,000 to cover these costs and get Duracell out sailing on the ocean once again.
