This fundraising effort is to support Mare - a longtime resident of the Richmond Marina Float Home community. Mare, an elderly pensioner, with chronic health concerns, is experiencing the tragic loss of her float home which sunk at low tide on Feb. 2 2022. Sadly, the home was uninsured and Mare lives on a very limited budget each month.
At 6am, neighbours helped rescue Mare and her two cats through a small bedroom window. Later in the morning Mare was able to crawl back into her sinking home to retrieve a few of her diabetes and heart medications. We, the marina residents, are rallying to support her with emergency shelter and meals. Mare doesn't have anywhere else to turn to, it's up to us to keep her afloat.

For those of you that don’t know Mare: she is one of the most exceptionally kind hearted, humble, authentic, generous and caring people we know. We are incredibly lucky to have her as a neighbour. She goes out of her way to help everyone as much and as often as she can.
Mare has been a resident of the Richmond Marina Float Home Community for the past 20+ years. She loves this community greatly, and we love her. With your support, we hope she will be able to stay here for the next 20+ years.

When it rains it pours, her float home sinking is in addition to being in a car accident that totaled her car a few months ago, and then another accident while borrowing a friend’s car just a few days before this tragedy. Mare is without wheels to get to her many medical appointments, pick up her insulin, or get groceries.
She has lost everything, including her identification in this tragedy–these stresses are compounding and certainly taking a toll on her health. While she remains in good spirits, it's time for us to help reset this string of bad luck!
We’ve created this page to help support Mare and relieve some of the pressures from her. Our goal of 25k will meet only her immediate needs, please give generously, as Mare does each day. Every dollar goes directly to Mare's bank account.
