Hi, I'm Syren. I've been a community builder, activist, and writer
for many years. I'm the founder of Disabled Hikers, a resource by and
for disabled people, along with about a dozen other community
projects. The past two and a half years have been incredibly
difficult, including some major losses and risks to my safety.
One of those things was my marriage. My ex-husband was, and
continues to be, abusive and manipulative. We divorced in April 2017,
and since then we have been involved in a legal battle. I sued him for
fulfillment of our divorce agreement and won the case, he appealed, I
won the appeal. Now I need to collect on the judgement.
Unfortunately this is not a simple process - I have to hire an
attorney to go through the legal channels to collect the money that is owed.
But I am SO CLOSE to being done with this, and him, and
finally able to move on with my life. Resolving this case
will give me much needed security for my future, so that I am
hopefully never in this position again.
*UPDATE* The costs of the case have exceeded the retainer I paid the attorney. My ex has been forcing negotiations, and his back-and-forth has increased my expenses. I am now raising additional funds.
How the money will be used
If the total cost is less than the amount raised, I will
contact donors to offer a refund.
Any funds that I
recuperate through the case will be used to 1) repay loaned funds 2)
return gifted funds
As you may know, abusers dragging their victims through the
legal system is a common tactic. But like so many survivors who are
standing up right now, I refuse to give up.
