Angie Kinel hasn't added a story.
Jacob's family received the devastating diagnosis that their son has bone cancer on 4/3/2015. Jacob has had multiple CT/MRI/PET scans, biopsies, and has been under anesthesia 3 times this past week. Test results confirmed Ewing's Sarcoma of his left femur and pelvic bone on 4/16/15.
Jake had complained of leg pain on and off for a couple of months, especially after playing sports or running around a lot. Since Jake has had growing pains many times in the past, his parents didn't think anything was wrong at first. Jake's mom Stephanie noticed that Jake was having increased pain at night and that he started to limp a little, so she took him in to see his pediatrician. His labs came back abnormal, and Jake was sent to an Orthopedic Surgeon for x-rays. The Orthopedic Surgeon immediately sent him to Children's Hospital after seeing his x-ray.
Jake started chemo 4/17/15 at UCLA. Through a lot of research they discovered that the UCLA Sarcoma department is the 3rd best in the country. Jake's Oncologist and Surgeon are both well known. His parents Stephanie & Roger have been staying with him at the hospital. His seven year old brother Luke is being looked after by friends and family. Roger and Stephanie are very grateful to those helping out with Luke. Thank you!
Jacob's treatment plan includes approximately 10 months of chemo, surgery, and radiation. Unfortunately Jake will not be able to have visitors during his chemo treatments. If your child would like to write Jake a get well note or draw him a picture, that would be great. He already misses his friends! You can email him/send photos to: jcondefamily@yahoo.com Or, you can drop cards off at my home in Hermosa, and I will see that he gets them. Please email me for my address. angiekinel@hotmail.com
A lot of people have been asking how they can help. It seriously takes a village in a situation like this. With much gratitude for each and every one of you!
