My 11 year old daughter Madison Hough has been one of a few choosen out of all of the 5th graders in her school to go to the Marine Science Program in the 3rd session: July 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16th. All sessions are Monday through Thursday from 8:15 A.M. to 2:15 P.M. and I will have to drive her. It is 25 miles one way. The cost of the two-week program is $415. When your final application is received in early April, it should be notarized and returned with your check. Students need to bring their own lunch from home.

MATERIALS NEEDED EVERY DAY:

⦁ Ring binder notebook
⦁ Sturdy lace-up style shoes
⦁ Money for drinks and snacks
⦁ Lunch
⦁ Pen or pencil
⦁ Bathing suit and towel
⦁ Hat and sunscreen
⦁ Dry change of clothes
⦁ Any necessary medications

So as you can see this will cost $415 to go, gas money to get there, money to pack her lunch ever day and the money to purchase the list of items required on a daily basis. Our goal is $700 to cover everything. This is a chance of a life time for Madison and we understand if you can't donate to this program for her but we would be appriciative if you can even donate $5. The Marine Science Program has maintained an academic focus since its beginnings in 1982. The program is designed for students who wish to expand their knowledge and experiences in the marine science field through “hands on” learning. Students are responsible for material presented. Grades are assigned and entered on a Certificate of Completion to be sent to parents to indicate student mastery. The majority of teaching and learning takes place in the field and students at various grade levels will access local coastal environments by canoe, kayak, SUP (stand up paddleboard), windsurfers, Hobie Cat sailboats, bicycles, trolley, and the program’s 27′ Carolina Skiff boat.
