Hola!

My name is Shelbie. This summer, I hope to, with your help, travel to Jiquilillo, Nicaragua for a month to help construct a new school for the local children, teach the children to read and write, rescue Hawksbill sea turtles from poaching, create fresh water catchments for the village, and clear the local coral reef of debri that is killing the surrounding wildlife.

I'm a college student majoring in Civic and Regional Development. This is a fancy way of saying I'll be working with nonprofit organizations around the country, and the world, to help them create change in their communities. The GIVE organization is a wonderful example of the type of organization I hope to work for in the future. They volunteer around the world (specifically in Tanzania, Thailand, and Nicaragua this year) to create SUSTAINABLE ecological and educational change. Through this experience, not only will I be helping the local children, but I will also be paving the way for my own professional development. We will learn leadership skills, communication skills, management skills, and teaching skills required to EFFECTIVELY help the local residents. 

Volunteerism is a core value I hold dearly. I volunteer locally as much as I possibly can. I hope to expand my base and help those internationally as well. Please help me be the change these children need so that they have a chance at success. The kind donation you choose to give, no matter the amount, will go directly toward my program, flight, and donations I bring to the children. The program cost, itself, is $2,000 dollars. The SCUBA conservation trip is $1,500 dollars. The flight is $1,000 dollars. I also hope to bring school supplies to the local community, with a total cost of $500 dollars. Anything you donate will help me accomplish this wonderful, challenging task. I have until April 1st, 2015 to raise the money so that I can embarked on this wonderful excursion.
