Satania Rhiannon Gidney is a drug and alcohol free 19 year old Honor student who just graduated High School.  All her life she has wanted to attend college, specifically an old fashioned women’s college.  Tania, as she prefers, has been accepted to just what she has always dreamed of, Sweet Briar College.  Sadly, although Fafsa Aid is helping, as is Sweet Briar, there is still a deficit of some $17,000. this year, not including books and the old beat up used car she will need to transfer her job at a chain restaurant  to Virginia.  She needs cash, or a co-signer for a loan, or a grant, or a scholarship for the tuition.  She needs money for her books.  Lastly she needs a donation of an old safe car, or money for one, or a co-signer to get one.

I am her mother and I am here to ask for your help because while Tania may not have a devastating disease, and she isn’t an ethnic minority, her life has been an absolute nightmare, and it is all my fault.  Well, actually it could be argued that it is all her father’s fault, but I am the one who married him, bred with him, stayed with him, and allowed him to use, abuse and destroy my family.

For over a decade, even when I was pregnant, I was beaten regularly.  Sometimes with a belt, sometimes with fists, always with a child close by.  Tania watched me bleed, she saw me punched so hard I could not catch my breath, and she saw me strangled. She watched her father seduce young girls, friends of her older half-sisters.   Often she was held up by her father, with a knife to her throat, in order to make me do something he wanted, or if either of us begged to change her name so she’d stop being attacked at school.  There was never any peace at home, and she was taught to lie early on, and pretend that everything was fine.

When it became known that Tania’s father had spent a decade, starting even before Tania was born sexually assaulting/abusing Tania’s sisters, he took Tania and her brother to Indiana.  By holding them, in what is now termed “parental abduction” Tania’s father implied if anyone told of his monstrous crimes, he’d do something equally monstrous to Tania and her brother.  By the time he was arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison and another 20 in sex-offender probation Tania had regressed to a feral state.  She was covered in lice and various bed bug type bites.  She was filthy and her clothes did not fit.  Worst of all she had completely forgotten how to read and had large bouts of amnesia making it impossible to tell if her abuse at her father’s hands had been anything worse than physical and emotional.  To this day we still do not know if she was molested.

And yet she rose like a phoenix!  Even when the other kids picked on her, laughing at her name and her mannerisms.  She refused to be just another abused kid statistic.  She got into a performing arts magnet and found herself happiest playing other people.  She not only re-taught herself to read, she excelled in almost every subject. Now, although she loves theater and plans to stick with it she intends to study International Law and French in order to prosecute monsters running the sex trafficking trade!  The world needs her and now I am begging the world as she is so close to her dream….

I married a monster and the only good thing to come of it was Tania and her brother.  I am unable to fix what my actions have broken in Tania’s life, but she deserves so much better.  Please, please help my child.
