About a decade ago, around age 30, Amy was diagnosed with SANDO, a rare form of mitochondrial disease.  In the year following her diagnosis, Amy's condition quickly worsened, forcing her to quit her job and to stop driving. More slowly, over the last several years, Amy has lost the ability to walk. Her eyesight and speech are both impaired to varying degrees. There is no cure for this hereditary disease, and it is difficult to research due to the large number of mito diseases each having its own unique presentation of symptoms.

Amy lives in Rochester, NY, with her husband, Jim, their 12 year old son, Aidan, and their beloved chocolate lab, Mac. Mac was evaluated by Canine Helpers for the Handicapped, Inc. and deemed worthy of becoming a service dog.  Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 to go to this organization to help defray the costs of Mac's training.  Thank you for your support.
