Hand to Paw has cared for over 30 puppies which had been abandoned in our temples or rescued from the streetside since October 2013. The pups are now coming of age to be sterilized and we desperately need to schedule, over the course of the next month, 20 sterilizations! There are only 20 remailing puppies and young adolescent dogs - the others have found forever homes and two sadly passed away due to illness and a road accident.

Although every year we experience a small percentage of puppy abandonments, we have never experienced the numbers that we have this past season. Temples in Thailand are often used as a dumping grounds for homeless or unwanted puppies.

Due to the unexpected large numbers of new dogs into our temple program our financial resources have been strained to the breaking point. A great outpouring came in when we rescued the 10 puppies and their mother from the roadside which helped to double vaccinate all the pups and the 10 other dogs that lived at the temple (Wat Pha Tiew) to which we were truly grateful.

We have a wonderful relationship with local vet "Dr. Pat" in Mae Rim, Thailand that performs the procedure for us for only 1000 baht per dog. This is roughly USD 31.00. We are also receiving the support from the Care for Dogs Foundation that will take some of the dogs when they have the availability in their spay/neuter program, but some of our dogs cannot wait.

The thought of leaving the pups un-sterilized until we can finds means to cover the sterilization costs is not an option - we have to do it now to prevent more unwanted puppies from being born.

As of today, with my visit to Wat Pha Tiew to check on the dogs I discovered that the residing 1 year old Shiatzu-"Chowk-Di" had started on estrus. She and her sister Shiatzu "Pii Mai" will be taken tomorrow for immediate sterilization.

Please help us - any amount will help! To keep a small program such as ours that looks after over 70 dogs in 9 temples in Mae Rim, Thailand we need support urgently. We do not want this one incedent to break our bank. Every dog in our program is vaccinated and sterilized accept for these 20 new members.

Hand to Paw also provides our 9 temples monthly dry food provisions, emergency care, puppy care, medicines, bathing, daily or weekly visits, grooming and love.
