Simmy, my cat, is only 4 years old. She's got kidney disease.

I got her as a kitten when a woman walked into the bakery I was working for with a flier and a hopeful expression. I took one look at the flier and fell in love. Simmy came home with me that same day. Since then she and I have been family. She follows me around the house, sleeps in my bed and provides comfort and friendship I didn't know I needed.

This morning I found out she has kidney disease. I had noticed over the past couple of days that she's been lethargic and not eating well, though she was drinking quite a bit. Everywhere she went, she went gingerly, as if she didn't have the energy. I thought she may have eaten something off, but when she didn't get better I took her to the vet. The people there gave her a quick, in-house blood test, and found that they creatinine and BUN results where significantly higher than they should be, almost off the charts in fact. This apparently indicates that my best little friend is imminent for renal failure.

Unfortunately, what's require is more tests that I can't afford. She needs an abdominal ultrasound to find out the extent of the damage. If it's kidney stones in her ureters than that can be treated. She would have the best chances of getting better if there hasn't been significant damage to her kidneys. It could also be a chronic condition that just didn't show up until now. She's also anemic and dehydrated, and needs IV fluids. Altogether, this could all cost anywhere from $500 to $1500. It's a huge difference, depending on the ultrasound.

Any extra money I'll donate to another pet charity, or another fundraiser so they can help someone else's pet. If you want your extra money to go anywhere in particular, let me know.

All I'm asking for is a chance to save my little friend's life. I know some people won't see the point in trying so hard for a pet. But Simmy is important to me, and worth every effort I can give her.
