On October 30, 2012, the super storm Hurricane Sandy slammed the cities of the Northeast — Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston — with rain and gusts of more than 85 mph leaving resulting in massive flooding, power outages, gas shortages and displaced families that are now without homes.

Makeba Smith, a single mother and was 9 months pregnant when the hurricane hit, lost her home and all belongings; she was left with nothing for herself or her expecting newborn baby girl. Everything that she worked so hard for was gone in a day. The devastation Sandy has caused is horrible and so many people are reaching out for help. My heart aches for all those who have lost and as a mother; I definitely could not ignore Makeba's story. Even if it's just one person, we all need to pull together to help. On November 14th 2012, Makeba gave birth to a beautiful 9lb baby girl! We are currently collecting baby items such as clothes, bottles, blankets etc... as well as clothes for Makeba Smith. In addition, this page will be used to collect donations in the efforts of assisting Makeba build back the necessities for herself and her newborn. Anything that you can donate is truly appreciated.
