My name is Terry, I am James' aka Jim aka Jimmy's sister.  

On late Friday 2/22/18 evening James was involved in a terrible car accident near his home.   He was transported to University of Maryland Shock trauma via Medivac.  He had two collapsed lungs, broken spine, broken pelvis, arms, head trauma and severe abdominal injuries. 

So far he has had abdominal surgery, spinal  surgery and surgery to basically put his arm back together.   He has been in a medically induced coma since Friday and relies on a ventilator to breathe.  He remains in the Shock Trauma unit.

2/26/19-James is making progress as far as breathing - relying less on the ventilator than before.  When the doctors reduce the sedatives they are able to wake him a bit and get him to follow commands such as "thumbs up", "wiggle your toes".  That is such a relief!  

While James is fighting for his life, the rest of the world goes on.  Which is why we have decided to ask for donations on his behalf to take care of his personal affairs.  We are facing challenges outside of his medical challenges.  James did not have a living will, current medical insurance,  nor a Power of Attorney.    So we the family are trying to obtain a legal Guardianship for him.   A legal Guardianship will allow a member of  his family access-to take care of his finances, his home, his insurance (ie the auto insurance claim), as well as make necessary medical decisions on his behalf.  Obtaining guardianship is a lengthy legal process requiring an attorney.   In our research the retainer alone is $3000.00.  The end result could cost upwards of $4000.00 to get it done.
