Jameela was found in the streets of Falah in Abu Dhabi on the 11th of May 2016. After being tagged in a post asking for help on facebook and a picture of a bleeding dog I made my way to her. Reaching the destination I saw the dog - lying in the middle of the street not moving. Hundreds of people must have passed her while she was lying there, it was a miracle she was not driven over yet. I was worried she might run away or try to bite me as I slowly approached her she stood up and came towards me with a wagging tail. (see video)
This dog was nothing like any dog I have ever met, she must have been in so much pain not knowing who I was or what I wanted and she came towards me with a wagging tail and while I lifted her into my car she started licking my hands.
It was 1am but I knew that she needed to get to the vet as quickly as possible, I rang the emergency vet out of bed and rushed to the clinic. Jameela was severely dehydrated, underweight and the worst: she had a rectal prolapse. The vet proceeded with tests of giardia and parvo, she was negative thankfully so she went in for surgery the very same night.
In the upcoming weeks Jameela had 2 more prolapses and 3 more surgeries in order to fix this issue, she had blood tests, X-rays and was thoroughly checked for her cough and the water in her lungs. All of this cost over 15000AED (3714 euros) which we were able to cover with the help of wonderful, kind hearted people. Jameela went to a wonderful foster home with a little pug foster sister and seemed to get better each week. Her hair started growing back and she gained two kilograms, she almost started looking like a real dog again.
This story was supposed to have a happy ending and I wanted to make sure of that. Chowchows do not belong into countries where summers are 50C with a humidity over 90%, this breed does not do well with the heat, the United Arab Emirates was definitely not the place for her. I found Jameela a wonderful home in Germany, a huge villa with garden in a village, a lovely family with a child and a cat, experienced dog owners who have been searching for a rescue dog to join their family for over a year.
Only one flight separated Jameela from an amazing future - so I thought.
I took my last money out of my bank account, booked myself a flight, booked her a flight and completed the paperwork.
When Jameela arrived in Germany I noticed she had blood in her stool, I thought the flight might have been stressful but this would not explain blood. I took her to the emergency clinic in Munich straight away.
Jameela had a high fever of 41,6 C and severe diahrrea. The clinic decided to keep her there and run tests, when the blood results came back they were shocking: severe anaemia. But this still did not explain all the blood in her stool and her high fever.
The next day we were hoping for better news but her fever was still on 41 C, she was put on antibiotics and the doctors were fighting for her life. There was still blood in her stool and the vets were waiting for the all the other results. Meanwhile I got all her old documents, went through every single day that she spent at the vets and thought of every possibility where she might have gotten sick or what was happening to her. I constantly called the vet for updates trying to figure out how I could help this angel.
This little girl was so close to hitting the jack pot, she was almost there it was just one more step to the most amazing life any dog could ever ask for.
Jameela still has a vet bill of 3548,60AED (878,70 euros) in the United Arab Emirates.
I have paid over 2260AED (560 euros) for her flight alone.
She left the veterinary clinic on Friday (29.7) with a bill of 1659,72 euros (6810AED), which will approx be another 1000 euros in the next three weeks. (4102AED)
Please send lots of positive thoughts for her recovery, we appreciate every small help towards her vet bills.
