”We are born to love until we die, but what will we choose to love?”
Vancouver Island-based Mirror Productions and Publications presents an original stage musical by Sarah Wood entitled “Take Off or Take the Fall”. Sarah has been working with Community Futures since 2011 on this project that has been over 25 years in the making. The music and lyrics for this completed work offer an insightful and uplifting look at life presented through song, movement, and dance. This contemporary dance opera portrays conflicts and resolutions in a journey through life from childhood to maturity. Sequences of tenderness, awkwardness, happiness, despair, and reconciliation provide moments that are touching, thought provoking, hilarious, and joyous.
The show is being presented "SITZPROBE" (a German term used in opera and musical theatre to describe a seated rehearsal) at both Parksville and Nanaimo venues.

About Sarah
Classically trained and influenced by everything from Sondheim to Satie, Sarah M. Wood's musical career began at the tender age of 10 when she composed her first piece of music on her mother's piano. Since then, Sarah has written over 250 pieces of music on both piano and guitar. Her musical style ranges from classical to jazz, theatrical to sacred, and her live performances have included everything from intimate solos to instrumental ensembles and accompaniment for three-choir choruses.
Raised in Nanaimo, BC. inside a very creative family, Sarah has been motivated by both family and circumstances to compose music for all ages in many genres. From lessons at the Victoria Conservatory of Music to Malaspina College in Nanaimo, she maintains that ultimately it was her mother, a piano teacher at both facilities, who inspired her the most throughout the years. Sarah's participation in musical theater came to a head in 1988 when a chance encounter with a British publicist persuaded her to produce her first musical theater production entitled Don't You Think It's Time? The lure of the theater stage continues to woo her as she lives the drama of day to day, but it is her family, faith and the natural beauty of her beloved Vancouver Island which consistently inspires all her musical compositions.
Commenting on her "Ocean Tapestry CD (winnerof the 2011- VIMA instrumental CD of the year award), Mary Ann Moore of More Living Magazine wrote that she could hear the ocean in Sarah's music. “Her compositions are a hint of Broadway meeting Pacific-Northwest ocean and rainforest, with a connection to the divine.”
For more than a decade, Sarah has enjoyed the privilege of playing the Nanaimo Port Theatre's Steinway concert grand to a full house at the VIU convocation ceremonies. She also plays regularly for small and enthusiastic audiences around Nanaimo and has recently begun production on her second full-length musical theatre production entitled Take off or Take the Fall.
