We will spend 5 weeks in the Philippines training as nurses and providing quality nursing care to an underserved population in Cebu City, Philippines. We will be mainly located in a hospital housed in an old fire hall, as well as working in the community at local clinic’s including; a circumcision clinic and a women’s birthing center.

Along with completing our clinical experience we are taking over 1000lbs of medical supplies donated by local Victoria charities for use during our practicum and to stock the hospital.

By participating in this Philippines experience we will all be able to share this first-hand experience in our future nursing endeavours. Having the opportunity to provide nursing in facilities that are sub-standard to westernized living with little access to medical supplies and equipment will personify the core values of what true nursing care looks like.  

If one is stripped of their luxuries it forces a deeper evaluation into their self-morals.  Working within a community baron of western medicine, ethics and standards will teach us to remain humble, while exuding support and love for people of another culture. 

This experience is a valuable one for us as nursing students, as well as the people of the Philippines who need our support.

This is experience will enrich each of us as individuals and most of all as nurses.  We are the future of healthcare and this experience will only contribute to producing quality, experienced Canadian nurses.

Each of us are solely responsible for the cost of this educational trip (approx. $4500/each).
