Maine to Standing Rock! hasn't added a story.
Dear friend,
Thank you for reaching out, and for your solidarity with Standing Rock. Before going further, please take some time to educate yourself with these resources . We’ve selected these to be both brief and deeply informative, and hope you will take time to read and share them widely.
If you are seeking to support directly to the movement at Standing Rock, two excellent avenues are the Standing Rock Sioux - Dakota Access Pipeline Fund and the Medic Healer Council .
SUPPORT FOLKS FROM MAINE AND BEYOND LEAVING NOVEMBER 16TH, 17TH, & 20TH:
If you are interested in sending a monetary donation to directly support folks leaving soon for Standing Rock you can make a donation on this page . Every little bit counts!! We have received more than 500 lbs of local vegetables, meat, and dry foods, two wood stoves, firewood, a military canvas tent, and many herbal medicines. Vehicles and trailors to tow these supplies are a considerable expense. We have already secured a trailer by donation that can transport up to 2000 lbs of donations. We have also purchased a 2003 Town & Country minivan from fundraising efforts within our group. There are more than twenty individuals that have expressed interested in coming if we have enough space, many of them with much needed skills such as medic training, construction experience, and a nonviolent direct action background, as well as being able to risk arrest. We have vehicles leaving on the 16th, 17th, and 20th!
DONATE FOOD / SUPPLIES:
Additional food donations are also gratefully accepted, we are seeking bulk foods that will be used in communal kitchens. Please check out the lists for food items and herbal medical needs . You can contact Jessie Dowling at fuzzyudder@gmail.com or (207) 465-5255 if you would like to coordinate a donation drop off in Whitefield, ME.
If you would like to donate herbal medicines or medical supplies and can deliver them to midcoast Maine, please get in touch with Rocky Coastlines rocky.coastlines@gmail.com or (919) 971-2811.
INTERESTED IN TRAVELLING TO STANDING ROCK?
If you are interested in traveling to Standing Rock, thank you! Please check the NE to Standing Rock: Rideshare & Resource Board . We may have space available, and are prioritzing native folks so if you or someone you know are looking for transportation please get it touch!
Thank you for standing in solidarity to end colonialism and preserve tribal sovereignty!
Much gratitude,
Caitlin, Kyla, Linda, Rachel, Rocky, Dima ♥
About our group
Kyla is an experienced activist, a registered nurse, and has studied plant medicine for more than a decade. She wants to travel to Standing Rock so she can offer her skills in whatever way is helpful to support local sovereignty and protect the water.
Caitlin is travelling to Standing Rock with the intention of supporting the folks there in any way needed. She has completed the Wilderness First Responder training and has been studying herbalism for more than three years. She is prepared to provide whatever help is asked for!
Linda (Lin) Gokee-Rindal, also known as Migiziikwe, is an activist and social justice educator with nearly a decade and a half of grassroots organizing experience. They are Anishinaabe (Ojibwe/Chippewa) from the Red Cliff Reservation in northern Wisconsin and their passions include youth empowerment, reproductive justice, disability justice and working with two-spirit, queer, and trans youth of color to create meaningful change in their communities. In October, they spent a week at the Two Spirit Camp within the Oceti Sakowin Camp (for more information, search for Standing Rock Two Spirit Nation on Facebook) and they look forward to returning to Standing Rock to continue building community with other Two-Spirit activists, holding space for all LGBTQI+ people at the camps, and defend our water. Mni Wiconi (water is life).
Check back soon for more info about additional group members!
What if we don't meet our goal?
We have everything we need to get ourselves to Standing Rock! Our group is committed to going, and if we are unable to bring all of the donations we have collected we will help support later groups from Maine going out in December to bring them.
What are these funds being used for?
We intend to fund one or two construction projects by purchasing much needed building supplies in ND for contribution to building the winter camp. Funding goal: $2000.
We also hope to support subsequent groups from Maine travelling to Standing Rock in December, we intend to prioritze indigenous folks in Maine and New England. Funding goal: $5000.
We have already collected many boxes of herbal medicine donations, and hope to expand this donation to include much needed emergency supplies such as treatment and protection for those experiencing trauma on the front lines. Funding goal: $1000.
We have already fundraised $5000 that will be donated to Two Spirit camp, a safe space for LGBTQ folks!
We have also recieved an offline donation of $10,000 that will go directly towards supporting Standing Rock, as well as indigenous people in Maine.
