The Garden of the 5 Senses
Many children with autism, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, sensory processing and integration disorders can find the traditional school setting challenging. At the Biddeford Primary School, we would like to provide sensory and horticultural therapy opportunities for students of all abilities. Our courtyard, located in the center of our school, has the potential to be a place of sensory stimulation, integration, learning, exploration, and solace. Educators, community members and child advocates have collaborated for nearly a year to thoughtfully plan a setting to meet various needs of our diverse population. Please consider donating to the needs of the children in our community.

Please...TOUCH, TASTE, SMELL, HEAR and SEE while in our sensory garden!
SEE! HEAR! The artistic use of color is planned to visually stimuate
the eye. Wind and water elements will provide natural sounds as well
as the implementation of musical elements.
Taste: Our design plan includes raised portable wooden planters and
opportunities for vertical gardening. Students can grow edible
plants, vegetables and herbs.
TOUCH and SMELL: We have incorporated planters to feature plants
that provide touchable textures and low allergen fragrances.
