Through videos, text, interviews, music, photographs, and more, Bel'Afrika Media provides opportunities for members of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific communities to tell their own stories. Bel'Afrika Media founder and director Kodjo Degbey believes "something special is preserved within a story when it is told directly from the storyteller." That's why, since 2010, he has put his heart and soul into developing the largest online archive of stories, experiences, and creative projects from these communities who so rarely have space to be heard. 

This campaign would enable Bel'Afrika Media to embark on two new, exciting projects:

Mentorship

Part of Kodjo's dream is to connect community members intergenerationally. With your funding, he would provide the opportunity for young and aged members of African, Caribbean, and Pacific communities to share life experiences through a mentorship program emphazing gender equality. The film he would create based on this project would highlight the value of intergenerational experiences to individuals and to communities.

Immigrant Experiences

Central to Bel'Afrika Media's mission is portraying African, Caribbean, and Pacific communities in Belgium in a positive way, in order to combat the negative stereotypes of these communities in major media outlets. With your help, Kodjo would produce a film documenting immigrant experiences in Belgium, focusing on why immigrants leave Africa, how Belgian communities approach integration, and the positive contributions African immigrants make to Belgian communities. 

Bel'Afrika Media brings people together to provide opportunities for artists, students, athletes, politicians, youth, community leaders, and many others to share their stories through videos, articles, photographs, facebook, twitter, media partnerships, and more. Now, Bel'Afrika Media asks for your help to bring the stories of the value of mentorship and of the positive experiences of immigrants to the forefront of Belgian media.
