The first phase of my campaign raised $2,700.00 total. This will pay for my plane ticket and some other expenses. Now I am raising $1,000.00 for other expenses. I appreciate anything you can do. Even the smallest gifts make a huge impact.

Why are you going to Niger?

Niger is among the 182 poorest countries in the world with a Christian population of less than 1/2%. Out of a population of over 15 million people about 1/2 a million claim to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. The literacy rate is around 26% and the child mortality rate is the fourth worst in the world. This is a land locked country where clean water is often scarce and living off the land is difficult. Within the country of Niger is a people group known as the Gourmanche people. This has been an unreached people group until about five years ago. Now many are coming to faith in Christ. Our teams goal is to equip, encourage, and evangelize.

Who are you going with?

This mission is being led directly by a ministry out of Lexington, Ky. called, "By his spirit ministries" It is also being sponsored by Global Advance, a ministry that I have traveled with to Kenya (20-10) and India (2012). Thier vision is "Lifting leaders, changing Nations"

Our team is being led by Miles Phelps, Director of "By HIs Spirit Ministries". Two other Church leaders from Lexington are going as well. John Choi, Pastor of Christ for the Nations United Methodist Church, and Andrew Kiteck, worship leader at Vineyard of Lexington. Each of these men bring unique gifts and callings for this ministry.

What are you going to do there?

Our purpose in going there is two fold. The first week will be spent ministering to and encouraging frontline pastors. For four days, in the captial city, we will hold a frontline Shepherd Conference. We will preach and teach on everything from the practice of ministry to personal spiritual development and mission strategy. In addition we will have times of prayer, fellowship and ministry to these pastors. We are not coming as the great experts but as partners in the gospel. We will serve these front line leaders in every way we can. Finally we will challenge them to pursue the great comission by planting churches in their areas.

The second week will be spent facilitating evangelism among the Gourmanche people. We will work with local missionaries and churches to facilitate evangelistic efforts among this newly reached people group.

Why are you going to preach instead of feeding and clothing?

First of all we whole heartedly support the call of Jesus to meet the physical needs of the poor. In fact we work together with local ministries that are largely devoted to meeting the every day needs of people. But our ministry is focused on equipping the equippers, and helping the helpers. These servants on the front lines give themselves daily to the task of being Christ to the needy. Our goal is to lift them up and help them be successful in that.

Second, in our work we almost always see God do miracles of healing and restoration to broken people as we preach and teach the word. So we go in opening ourselves up to whatever type of ministry God would have us to. Its a joy to see what Jesus can do in the lives of people by his mighty power.

Third,we believe that there is nothing more powerful in changing a nation than the gospel of Jesus Christ. He doesn't just save souls. He transforms nations as people surrender to him.

What's with raising all the money?

The initial cost of this mssion will be about $ 2,100.00. This will cover the plane ticket. In addition to that the costs of room and board, travel expenses, immunizations and unexpected costs bring the total to $3,500.00. Finally, since I will miss two weeks of work (unpaid leave) I need to raise another $1,500.00 to make up for the loss in pay. Add all this up and we have a total of about $5,000.00. Reciepts will be kept, and records made available for any who would like them.

I don't like using online payment. Can I still give?

Absolutely. If you prefer to mail in a donation make your check out to :

As you give you are participating in spreading the gospel to the front lines of a broken world. There are pastors there who need to be lifted up, encouraged and trained. Even more there are people who have not yet heard of our wonderful savior. Please give and pray for this great opportunity. Even the smallest gift will count in big ways. God bless you. Mark
