Jason (pictured with his Mum & Dad) was my Godson. He died in December 2012, a week short of his 24th birthday after battling cancer (Osteosarcoma) for 5 years.
He was first diagnosed while he was working at a summer camp in America. Despite his illness, he returned to Wisconsin each summer, because he loved working with the youngsters who went there.
He was universally popular, with children and adults alike and YMCA Camp Edwards meant a huge amount to him.
I wanted to do something special in Jason's memory and I have decided to fundraise for a place that he treasured.
I ran my first ever marathon in March 2013. A nice, flat, road marathon, in the cool of March, in Rome. I finished it. No records were set, but I got round.
That was the tester!
Now I am attempting to run a hilly, off road, 50km - 8km longer than a marathon - and it is in the middle of August......
This being the UK, it could be cold and wet, but you can bet that because I want it to be so....it won't!
Whatever the weather, it's going to hurt. It's also going to take a very long time and I estimate I could be out there about 7 hours..........so please, spare me a penny or two so that my pain will benefit the Camp Edwards family who were so important to Jason.
Thank you.
