On the morning of May 28, 2013 Jemssey and Jessica Alvarez lost their home due to a fire that started on the outside of the residence.

Jemssey is an active duty Marine here at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and early in the morning they had awoken to the smell of smoke. Believing it to be someone in the neighborhood who had been burning leaves the day before, Jemssey gathered his things for work and left, not knowing that a fire had started on a outside wall of the house. The fire had crawled up the outside wall, under the siding of the house and into the attic, where it spread throughout. Jessica was still sleeping at the time and was awoken to the house being filled with smoke. She was able to make it out of the house just in time to see the flames coming out of the attic vents.

Local volunteer fire departments who fought the flames were pulled out of the house twice due to safety concerns by the fire marshal, whom valued their loss at $70,000.

Although they were renting the house, as many members in the military do, the Red Cross has put them in a hotel for 2 days. They are in need of help and I am pleading to those who can.
