Wendy Allen-Popchoke hasn't added a story.
Back in Oct 2012, I noticed a growth in one of her mammary glands. I was hoping it was an infection. Her vet gave me antibiotics and instructed me to do heat compressions. This did not work, the mass just continued to grow.
Julie has not been spayed yet, so I made arrangement to have the mass removed and biopsied along with a spay and a surgery for her entropion disorder (her eye). In the process of putting Julie out for surgery, my vet called (4 times to be exact). Julie's heart rate dropped considerably low and became very erratic along with her breathing, to the point to where my vet had to help her breath. Needless to say, we made the decision to abort the surgery. I am so very happy that I have a loving and caring vet and one who monitors her patients as closely as she does, or my Julie may not have been with me today. A couple of weeks later, my vet did an ECG on Julie to find out what was wrong with her heart. Julie gets so nervous in strange places that her ECG was unreadable. So I was referred to the University of Missouri for a cardiac consult. Her consult was on Tue. 3/26, and the result is:
Mar 26 2013
I have great news. All of Julies tests turned out AOK. Apparently she had a reaction to the anesthetics used on her when we tried to do surgery. So the University is sending special instructions to my vet as to what to use on her for the procedures to keep her calm. She also seen an optimologist while she was there and it turns out that she does not have entropion disorder but they do suspect that she was born without a tear duct. There is a surgery that they think she is a good candidate for to fix that and make her more comfortable. It will also keep her from loosing her eyesight in the future. I am so excited to think we can now proceed and get that mammary mass removed and tested and hopefully a spay will prevent anymore masses in the future.
I am still in desperate need of funds. Today was $370. Her spay and mass removal will be about $500 and the surgery on her eye will be another $800. Please help in anyway you can. No amount is to small and everything is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
