Tracie Motley-Narain hasn't added a story.
Mariah began skating in the fall of 2009 she was 8 years old ; her
first two seasons as a Bowie ISI Figure skater she skated on the
Production Team( a play on ice) and as an individual skater. Her third
season with the team she decided she wanted to join the Syncro Team
(Synchronized skating) ( which requires a much higher skill set),
Mariah at this time was skating on the Production & Syncro teams
as well as training with her Private coach for individual events; it
was at this time that she showed interest in USFS training. Mariah has
competed in over a Dozen Figure skating competitions including
Districts in Delaware & Nationals in Florida where she competed
against 548 skaters and 27 teams; her medal case displays a beautiful
Array of gold, silver & bronze medals. Last season Mariah was on
ice six days a week totaling 15 hours she took the following classes:
ballet, ice dancing, jump & spin, moves in the fields, power
classes, USFS private lessons, ISI Private lessons, advanced private
lessons from Rory Flack (ranked in the top 5 African American figure
skaters in the nation) as well as weekly Production & Syncro Team
practice. On an average Skaters advance 1 maybe two levels per season
overall with Mariah’s hard work and dedication Mariah has advanced 3
levels per season and is considered one of the strongest skaters on
her team for her age group! Mariah has successfully test & passed
the following levels:
Alpha, Alpha 2, Beta, Beta 2, Gamma, Gamma
2, Delta, Delta 2, Freestyle 1, Freestyle 2 & Freestyle 3
Currently Mariah is a Freestyle 4 skater to give an idea where
she is she will begin working on her axel in Freestyle 5 and freestyle
goes up to 10
Mariah’s passion & dedication for Figure Skating earned her
an invitation to compete at The International Skating Institutes
Worlds 2013 Championships in Thailand To compete at this level was a
dream come true for Mariah. However with airfare, hotel, competition
& coaching fees it would have cost us around $7,000 for the two of
us to attend and her to compete. We will try again next year!
P.S. As a proud mom I would like to add Mariah has done all of
the above while consistently maintaining “Honor roll” for 21 quarters
straight. And graduated from the 6th grade with Honors receiving The
Presidential Academic Achievement Award.
