My name is Dan Baird and I had the distinct privilege of having Slim play in my band for a short while in the early 90's. There are still some people out there that should know about Slim's stroke who will be reading about this for the 1st time. Slim had a very complicated stroke and was in the ICU for over 2 weeks. He's now moved to rehab and even though he's steadily improving, it will be a long road to recovery. I've asked the Dunlap family to allow me to sell you guys an idea on this site. Delia, Louie & Emily have set up a paypal account to cover the massive bills that are going to come in despite the fact that Slim has insurance. Anyone who's ever seen what comes in the mailbox 3-6 months after a long a stay in an ICU will know what I mean. If you don't, then think of what I'm about to ask of you as a personal "good luck tax." Yep, I'm gonna pass the hat. I'm going to ask you all to each send 20 bucks, the cost of one decent dinner out, a movie w/ popcorn and a soda. Some will ask, "Why not more?" That'd be great! If you've got it, bring it. Where I live, everybody's got 20 bucks. If we get 50% of the fan club's 1000+ members to do it, we get the Dunlaps a much needed $10,000 to cover their butts and NOT think about money for a little while. We can't all make it to a benefit in Minnesota, or drive to Slim's rehab, but we can do this, and it'll go straight to the Dunlap family with no questions.
