Every year, no less than 2000 slow lorises become objects of hunting for sale as pets. Not a single one of them finally died in the hands of the hunter, even in the custodian. This chain of crime is not only a process of taking lemurs from home, but also a painful cruel process.

The teeth of the slow loris teeth are forced to be cut off so that potential buyers / maintainers feel safe from dangerous slow lorises.

This cruelty makes the slow loris weak and short-lived due to severe mouth disease and infection. This heinous practice will continue to be repeated as long as the interest in keeping slow lorises still grows and the perpetrators benefit from the transactions they run.

At least, 200 slow lorises are currently undergoing treatment at our rehabilitation center at the foot of Mount Salak, Bogor, West Java. Most of them were victims of trafficking, which law enforcement officials thwarted and also surrendered by people who were aware of the importance of preserving slow lorises.

Unfortunately not all slow lorises in the rehabilitation center are in good health.

Broken teeth, gunshot wounds, permanent diseases and disabilities arising from the maintenance process are complex problems faced by animal nurses to restore the condition of the slow loris. Of the many slow lorises treated, only 30% of them still have the opportunity to be returned to nature.

How will this donation be used?

All donations collected will be used for slow loris conservation programs which include rescue, rehabilitation and release (Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Release) + Monitoring.

While handling slow loris care at a rehabilitation center, at least one slow loris requires a minimum of Rp. 10 million per year. This amount will be even greater if the slow loris needs medical treatment such as surgery or has the opportunity to be returned to its habitat.

Since 2008, IAR Indonesia has at least released around 300 slow lorises to its habitat, and this program will continue as long as there are still many slow lorises who are victims of hunting and trade and the high interest of the community to maintain.
