Still looking for the perfect home for Buddy, my sweet senior boy who was taken away from his mama who has dementia. In the meantime, I'd like to get him to the vet for blood work (approx $160) --he lost over 30lbs very rapidly after his "dad" passed away a few months ago and I want to make sure he doesn't have anything beyond grief that caused the weight loss--and to get him started on some anti-inflammatories for his arthritis (estimating around $50 if he is put on standard carprofen).
If I am able to raise enough, I would also like to provide him with a good orthopedic bed and some high quality senior dogfood.
For anyone not familiar with his story, Buddy is a 12-year-old neutered male lab who has unfortunately lost his home. Buddy is housetrained, great with cats a nd other dogs, knows his basic commands, and is very affectionate and friendly!
Buddy's owner has severe dementia and lives in a community retirement home where Buddy lived with her until about a week and a half ago. Another resident with dementia was petting Buddy and for some reason shoved her hand into his mouth...it is still unclear if he actually bit her (maybe she hurt or gagged him?) or if she scraped herself on his teeth...but I can personally attest that I messed with and grabbed his mouth, ears, tail, feet, etc. today and purposely tried to startle him but he didn't bat an eye at any of my actions. Unfortunately, the owner's caretaker decided that Buddy would have to be euthanized and paid to board him for 10 days for the quarantine period and pre-paid his euthanization appt which was supposed to be today. Luckily, we were able to convince her to give me a chance to find Buddy a new home.
Healthwise, Buddy had a hip replaced a few years ago, but so far hasn't required any pain medications (though in my opinion, he would probably benefit from a daily anti-inflammatory). His teeth are BEAUTIFUL! His sight and hearing aren't what they used to be, but he has lots of life left in him!
He is VERY sweet and I have absolutely fallen in love with him!
Every dollar donated will be greatly appreciated! <3
