FIVE people escaped a severe house fire in Wallasey this morning.

Fire crews were called to Littledale Road at around 6.25am following calls to emergency services.

Four fire engines attended the incident and crews tackled the blaze on the first-floor and roof of the property.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service say a woman was treated for shock at the scene by paramedics and four others were also checked.

Damping down operations were still going on at 9.10am and firefighters used thermal imagining cameras to ensure the flames had not spread to neighbouring houses.

Watch manager Ray Olsen, from Wallasey fire station, said: “This was a very severe fire. We prevented it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

“Two people discovered the fire and got people out. Five people had safely left the premises before we arrived.

“The hydrants were at either end of the road and we needed additional hoses due to the distance.”
