Andrea is a single Mother of 3 young children, ages 7,5,3. Around Christmas she started having headaches and not feeling "right". Even when the headaches became so severe, she kept working as she had to work to be able to take care of her children. She called it "stress" until April 15 when she became so violently ill she had to go to ER. What they found were many large tumors. On April 17th they removed the biggest on the left side of her brain and sent it off for pathology. Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins and The Mayo Clinic all confirmed with what we feared the most: metastatic melanoma in her brain. She also has a spot in her lung. The primary site is unknown at this time. She also has 7 large inoperable tumors on the right side of her brain and many "seed cells" ready to grow. There are typically 4 options for metastaic melanoma : chemo/ radiation- gamma knife or whole brain- immunotheraapy and targeted cell therapy. The oncologist and radiologist have both confirmed she has only 1 option. Whole brain radiation. Chemo not effective b/c of blood-brain barrier, gamma knife unable to do b/c of how large lesions are- and the last 2 can not be done while the radiation is ongoing. Without treatment they have told her 2 months survival, with all 4..which I said 3 of the 4 are not an option at this point..1 year. The hope is the whole brain radiation will shrink tumors enough to be able to gamma knife? The radiologist has told her this is the worst case he has ever seen.
Andrea is the sweetest and most loving and fun person. She LIVES for her kids. They are the light of her life. She is a wonderful friend and coworker. She has been such a hard worker to keep ends meeting for her family. Again, that is why she did not seek treatment earlier- she shrugged it off to stress, until the pain and symptoms became too much to bare.
My goal here is raise money to make the time Andrea has with her kids as stress free financially as I can. I am hoping through donations we can help pay her rent/her groceries/her essentials and hopefully maybe a few fun outings with her kids while she is able to do so. Please help me achieve this goal with your donations and alot of prayer. The picture of Andrea is one as she was leaving hospital . They had to shave about 3 inches back of her hair from ear to ear and staples were all across hairline. The bruise on her eye is from the surgery. With the whole brain radiation, the rest of that beautiful long blonde hair is falling out..and she continues to be brave , has alot of faith and smile.
Thank you for whatever you are able to help with and most importantly keep her in your prayers for a miracle.
