Hi! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Robin, an American teacher who recently moved to Uganda with my Thai husband, Chatchawan (Cak) and our 2 daughters to take a job at an international school. We've wanted another child, hopefully a boy, for a while, and once we got here we realized how many abandoned and orphaned children there are here and how big the need is for people willing to adopt. So we began looking into adoption and it seemed very difficult and unattainable at first. But after a while two small organizations got back to us, both around the same time, each having already identified a boy for us! So we went to see them both, a 2-year-old orphan (left) and a 3-year-old orphan (right). Both organizations were so impressive - so tiny and SO SO poor, yet run with the effort to move mountains. Each is run by a local teacher and his wife with a mission to help the disadvantaged children in his area (each is a combo orphanage with free school). After seeing the younger boy first we felt uncertain - was he the one? How do we know? Something was making us unsure. Then the next day we got to see the older boy and suddenly we felt certain that we were somehow meant to try to take both! Logically it seems we are trying to take on too much, being that I'm only a teacher and we consider ourselves on the poor side, but then we began to realize that what we consider "poor" is on a whole different scale from the poorness that these boys would be destined to endure the rest of their lives if left to grow up as orphans in Uganda. The number of similarities between both organizations, their directors, their efforts at getting us to consider adopting their boys, and even in the timing of it all seemed more than coincidence to us. We also started to think that maybe being the ONLY adopted, black, Ugandan, very young, boy in our family might be too lonely of a road for one little boy - maybe he'd need a partner to walk it with him. So, here we are - ill equipped to take on the legal fees needed to foster/adopt 2 boys, but we strangely feel that we are meant to try to do just that. After all, what's the alternative? A loveless life of poverty for them both. Please help us raise some money to make this possible. We don't know the exact costs yet - depending on who we talk to the requirements differ. But we now know (based on newly acquired information) it's a minimum of $4000 and a possible maximum of $9000 from start to finish (which would be when they're fully adopted with US passports - likely more than a year from now).
