UPDATE THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4th:
Kodak had his surgery consultation today with Dr. Cross at VSGA today, and the results are not great or expected. His imaging showed a tumor wrapped around his tibia. Due to the size and location of the tumor, he will be getting his back hind leg amputated on Monday, December 8th. Sooo unfortunately we will not be saving his leg which was the original intention of this campaign. The tumor will be biopsied upon removal, but Kodak very likely has bone cancer. Based on the images taken, it does not appear to have spread.
Hi! My name is Cam, and the handsome man above is Kodak. He is a nine year old Pitbull mix who I adopted from Lifeline Animal Services back in 2018. He's also my best friend. He's been with me through some amazing highs and terrible lows. My partner and I have made our little family with him being the center of our world. We are the stereotypical "white girls who adopt a pitbull in their 20's" with all the silly clothes, fancy food, and spoiling that stereotype entails. He is my soul dog, and I will do anything to repay him for the fulfillment he's brought to my life.
That being said, he tore his ACL at the beginning of this
year. We took him to the emergency vet where he was
diagnosed with a partial tear to his right Cranial Cruciate Ligament
(CCL), which is the dog equivalent to the human ACL. Due to it being
a partial tear and being unable to pay the astronomical price of the
surgery used to fix this injury, we decided to treat it with
conservative management techniques such as laser therapy (where he
got to wear some cool goggles), acupuncture, and exercise
restrictions. Unfortunately, here we are nine months later. His
progress has plateaued for several months, and due to him
overcompensating to relieve pressure on his back right leg, he is
prone to damaging other limbs, making physical therapy difficult for
him. We are now face
d with the reality that he will never be able to be an active
dog again without this surgery.
If you know me at all, you know I hate asking for help. I'm a very proud person raised to not ask for help and not accept it when it's offered, but this isn't about me. It's about my sweet baby boy who just wants to chase a ball again. Who wants to zoom in places other than his dreams. Who deserves to take walks again instead of being strutted around in a stroller because he can't walk for more than a few minutes without pain.
I understand how difficult life is treating everyone right now, but if you could please find it in your heart to help my baby, I will be eternally grateful to you.
