Dear friends,

I am Denitza Seraphim – singer, composer, and artist, known to most of you as the first vocalist of Irfan band. For a long time, I have been dreaming of creating music that would remind me of the northern European sound, the Medieval rhythms and the Renaissance music. Three years ago, I gave life to my big dream and dared to compose an entirely acoustic album with songs in different European languages. My inspiration was the European music of the 16th century - a crossroad of different epochs.

So I saw a group of pilgrims roaming with their musical instruments and playing songs on their way to holy places, from the far northern fields to the hot south.
Eight talented musicians with vast experience on the stage became these pilgrims and turned my melodies into beautiful music:

Asen Marinov – guitar. He composed wonderful accompaniments to my voice and he arranged many of the pieces.

Emil Mihov – viola da gamba, recorders. Musician with rich experience and knowledge in old European and Renaissance music, who gave a true medieval touch to the music with his instrument.

Boyana Zareva – violin/viola and vocals. Her virtuoso violin playing shaped the specific northern European character of the entire album.

Denitza Dimitrova - harp. She decorated the music in the album with magical sounds of her Celtic harp.

Yordan Vladev – folk flutes. With his Orpheus-like mastery he is a mediator to those primordial depths of the old European music, which we all seek in folklore.

Emil-George Atanassov – sackbut. Having studied the art of sackbut (Renaissance trombone) in England, he gave a Renaissance colour to two of the emblematic tracks in the album.

Neyko Bodurov - trumpet. With his trumpet he painted the most sparkling colors in the album.

Anita Neycheva – bendir, tambourine. She turned out to be my special music discovery – the girl who keeps the rhythmic coherence of the album.

I miraculously discovered old religious lyrics that perfectly matched the melodies I already had in my head. I believe that you will be interested to see how this old Christian poetry of the 16th and 17th centuries gave a special meaning to the songs. That's why I'm preparing a booklet with all the lyrics. Their recording was a really complex and interesting process. I even had to invite several philologists to make the translations and to guide me in my singing. Inspired by the music myself, I wrote a poem dedicated to the album. 

I like to go back in time and to design historical costumes and romantic landscapes. As an artist-scenographer I have always dreamt of presenting my music on the stage, employing the aesthetics of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. As I was drawing, melodies came into my mind and they eventually turned into real songs and with the costumes I dressed my musicians–pilgrims. 

The ongoing promo tour is a musical and visual journey through time. Therefore the costumes and the stage lighting had an important part of our concerts. We started from the town of Kyustendil and then in the city of Varna we had the first full scale performance. And the audience was so enthusiastic.

The process of creating an album with classical acoustic instruments is so complex and it is an expensive one. We worked hard for over 2 years to bring to life this project. After writing down the scores throughout all of 2021 and 2022 we eventually started the rehearsals together and after that we started the recordings. I chose a great studio and the sound of the acoustic instruments was exquisitely recorded - thank you JENG studio! Now we are at the final stage of mixing and mastering of the album.

Here is how we plan to spend the money from the crowdfunding campaign:

900   € - Language consultants, editors, translations from Bulgarian into English, etc.

2400 € - Live Promo Concert in Sofia

600   € - Packaging/mailing time/expenses costs

1000 € - PR & Promotion campaign

I am planning to print 500 CDs. A lot of people are needed to create the CD: a photographer, a designer of the cover, designers of the logo and the fonts,  interpreters from different languages, an editor and a proofreader, a print designer. The artwork and the design of the CD, as well as all the art images with my face in the campaign will be created by the Bulgarian artist Ruslan Dragostinov.
We have prepared for you a few of his artistic digital collages, showing the different faces and internal states of the artist Denitza Seraphim.  I hope you like them!
