Hola dear ones,
my name is Hauxita and I am looking for financiel support to pay the tuition fees for the graduate program "Visual and Media Anthropology" at HMKW Berlin. I recently got accepted into the program and I have been looking for scholarships-options, which only would apply starting April 2022 (if I would get accepted for a scholarship). Therefore, I am looking for ways to pay the first semester (October 2021-March 2022), which I'd have to do until June 15, 2021.
ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in Germany, though my family originally is from Central Asia.
For many years I was a professional to the contemporary art scene, film and music industry as well as in academic research in Berlin, Germany. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Theory and History of Art from Freie Universität Berlin, and I also studied Political Theory (FU Berlin), Cultural Anthropology (HU Berlin) and Curatorial Procedures (Node Center Berlin).
In 2013 I first travelled to the Amazon Rainforest of Perú, where I overall lived for 17 months in isolation to study the realm of plant medicines in the tradition of Shipibo- and Mestizo-Curanderismo, not just to find healing for a severe health condition, but also to dive deeper into the teachings of the jungle. Since 2017 I have been mainly visiting indigenous communities of the Brazilian Amazon Basin, living with them and learning about their way of life.
A SHORT STORY FROM THE JUNGLE
It was the day before I was about to head out from Brazilian
jungle-town Cruzeiro do Sul on the Jurua-river to the Apiwtxa-village
of the Ashaninka people, a 28-hour boat-ride ahead of me. Up to that
point, I already spent some weeks with the Puayanawa people in the
jungle during their annual festivity. There I met a representative of
the Ashaninka and I asked him if I could visit his village.
While
I was having breakfast in the hotel, a group of people joined in and
sat by my table. I randomly started talking to one of them, an
anthropologist, who himself just returned from Apiwtxa-village after a
few weeks. So this is a somewhat funny coincidence, I thought to
myself. He was interested in the reason for my journey and we started
chatting. At the end of our talk he suggested to me to consider
studying Anthropology. Of course, his recommendation is not the reason
for returning to academics, but he introduced the idea to me.
WHY WOULD I LIKE TO STUDY AGAIN, AND SPECIFICALLY THIS PROGRAM?
So many reasons, really...
AUDIENCE & EDUCATION
I would love to create visual footage, with the help of this
study program, that captures the messages, voices, vibrations from the
jungle and makes them accessible to a bigger audience. The most
"equal", most accessible medium, in my understanding, is the
visual one, which works best in form of documentary film and
photo-footage. Throughout my work within the last years I came to
realize that education, sharing information, is a crucial element to
learning und understanding. Documentary film and photography are
expansive ways of communication as well as education. I truly believe
in the power of the document in audio-visual form and its intrinsic
meaning for human history.
ACADEMIC RESEARCH
I would love to contribute something important to academic
research in the field of Visual Anthropology and return to academics
in general would re-connect and bridge my current life with parts in
me that existed before the jungle. With entering this study program I
am hoping to find the framework and tool-kit that supports me on my
path, being accompanied in an academic and practical approach.
HISTORY
It is important to document what is going on in our world, the
planet and in different societies. Why is that? To access indigenous
wisdom and history for the future of this planet, to learn from our
human ancestry. To preserve a moment of human history, to be able to
share it in order to contribute to our understanding of this world is
a unique opportunity as well as privilege.
VIVA AMAZONIA
The current state of the Amazon Rainforest is worrying. With its
ongoing destruction as well as contamination do we not just witness
the eradication of this highly complex and unique biodiversity-entity,
but also of its indigenous groups, who find their home in the jungle.
As I have spent, to this moment, around 3 years living in the
Rainforest, it hurts me deeply to witness this process for some time
already with my own eyes. What can I do to help? This question has
been nagging on me for a long time...
I hope that I can raise the
awareness around these matters with taking a new step into this study program.
LOGISTICS
If you wonder about the exact logistics of this program, let me
give you some insights here:
I can study this program from
whereever in the world if I can not make it to the In-House-Classes in
Berlin, as it is entirely designed and offered as a
distance-learning-program. Of course, I would return to the jungle to
do my field work and collect footage for the visual project that I'd
like to develop for my Master-Thesis. Due to the current travel
restrictions around the pandemic, I can not be sure to be able to
return to the brazilian jungle, but I could do some fieldwork in the
peruvian jungle yes or yes.
I would be thrilled if you could help with a donation. If you have more questions please contact me.
Many many thanks and blessings from Hauxita

Hola querid@s,
empezamos a charlar.
